World Rugby Series 2017-2018


The dates for the next season of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, 2017-18 that will accommodate the Commonwealth Games 2018, were announced.


 World Rugby announced the dates of the ten rounds of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in 2017-18.

The calendar will have a unique change with respect to the season that ended, with Hamilton taking the place Wellington as the destination of the New Zealand Sevens, the third stage of the circuit, to be played in February.
The next season also accommodates the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast, to be played between the tournaments of Hong Kong and Singapore.

The series will begin in Dubai on December 1-2, 2017 before traveling to Cape Town the following weekend. After the break in December, Sydney will welcome the sixteen teams for three days, from January 26 to 28, 2018 before continuing at the FMG Stadium Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand, a week later.
The fifth and sixth stages will be in Las Vegas on March 2-4 and Vancouver on March 10-11.
The teams that play in the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast of Australia in mid-April will travel from the Hong Kong tournament that will be between April 6 and 8. The series returns to meet on April 28-29 in Singapore.

Considering the welfare and safety of the player when it comes to plotting the season, the HSBC Paris Sevens will be played later than usual, on May 26 and 27, a week before The season ends in Twickenham on June 2 and 3.
At the end of the circuit, the focus will be on the United States, where between July 20 and 22 will be played in the iconic home of the San Francisco Giants, AT & T Park, Rugby World Cup Sevens. Tickets for the tournament will go on sale on July 20, 2017, exactly one year before the start of the World Cup which already has  13 confirmed men's teams .

World Rugby President Bill Beaumont said: "After another year in which records fell in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, we are looking forward to what will be a very special 2017-18 season for men's and women's rugby in seven. We will have ten stellar tournaments for the men, leading to the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 in San Francisco, another great tournament in which New Zealand will defend the men's and women's titles obtained in 2013. "
"The success of rugby sevens at the Olympic Games in Rio last year gave us a great boost, attracting some 30 million new supporters; We work hard to ensure that popularity continues to grow in the coming years ahead of Tokyo 2020. "
Giles Morgan, HSBC Global Head of Sponsorship and Events, said: "This season was based on Rio's Olympic success. The newest tournaments on the circuit, Cape Town, Sydney, Vancouver, and Paris, continued to rise and are already competing with the traditional events of Dubai, Hong Kong and London as international level events. "
The complete calendar of dates and venues is detailed below. The zones and matches will be announced in a timely manner on  worldrugby.org . Details of the HSBC World Rugby Women's Sevens Series will be announced at the end of the women's season.
