However, according to the information published on the website of Marine Traffic, a non-governmental organization related to monitoring the position of seagoing ships and maritime safety, the ship was staying in the Bay of Bengal until 11:00 am Bangladesh time on Thursday.
According to diplomatic sources, the US embargoed Russian flagship (Sparta 3) has been renamed 'Ursa Major'. Russia sent the products of the Rooppur nuclear power plant by that ship. The ship started its journey to Bangladesh on November 14 from the port of St. Petersburg, Russia.
According to information available to Bangladesh, the Russian-flagged vessel was scheduled to arrive at Mongla port on December 24. Before that, on December 20, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh came to know that the ship named Ursa Major is the US embargoed ship 'Sparta 3'. The US Embassy in Dhaka informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a diplomatic letter. It is said that any kind of cooperation with the ships on the list of US embargoes, such as loading and unloading of goods, fuel supply, and any kind of cooperation with the ship's sailors, will create the risk of falling under the US sanctions or facing large financial penalties.
The Ministry of External Affairs then informed the Ministry of Shipping. The Ministry of Shipping refused to allow the ship to dock at any port in Bangladesh. Russia expressed its anger through a diplomatic letter. It has even been reported that Russia pressured Bangladesh to allow the ship to enter the port and release the goods.
