After visiting the Rohingya refugee camp, Antonio Guterres said that the Rohingya people who were forcibly displaced and sheltered in Bangladesh want to return to Myanmar. For this, he called on the international community to restore peace in Myanmar.
The UN Secretary-General said that Rohingya refugees flocked to Bangladesh after being subjected to genocide in Rakhine State. Many have come recently as victims of human rights violations. Bangladesh has sheltered more than a million Rohingya refugees. Now the world needs help. They want to return home, Myanmar is their homeland. Safe, dignified repatriation is the main solution to this crisis.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Chief Advisor and the UN Secretary-General reached Cox's Bazar on a special flight of Bangladesh Biman. Then, from the airport, UN Secretary-General Guterres went directly to Ukhia in Cox's Bazar. Later, he visited the Rohingya Education and Cultural Center and the Jute Products Production Center there.
On the other hand, upon reaching Cox's Bazar, Principal Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus visited the Cox's Bazar International Airport and the Khurushkul Climate Refugee Center under construction there. Later, in the afternoon, the Principal Advisor and the UN Secretary-General joined Iftar with about one lakh Rohingya refugees in Ukhia.
It is worth noting that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in Dhaka on Thursday (March 13) on a four-day visit. Later, he participated in a meeting with Principal Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus in Tejgaon in the capital. Where Guterres reiterated the UN's commitment to Dhaka's reform agenda.
