The country's largest political party, BNP, is on track to win a landslide victory in two-thirds of the seats in the historic February 12 election. The party has already qualified to form the government on its own. On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami has won the most seats in its history in this fiercely contested election, becoming the opposition party in parliament.

According to the results announced by the center, BNP is going to win two-thirds of the seats. Independent candidates are on track to win about seven seats. The 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami is ahead in the remaining seats. According to information received from all over the country, 'Yes' has won the referendum by a large margin. According to Election Commission sources, more than 75 percent of the votes were cast in the election. Meanwhile, according to Commission sources, about 61 percent of the votes were cast in the parliamentary election.

The voting festival of transition to democracy was completed very smoothly and peacefully yesterday, Thursday. The referendum on reforms was held along with the 13th parliamentary election. Voting was held in 299 of the 300 parliamentary constituencies in the country. The Election Commission has postponed the election for Sherpur-3 due to the death of a candidate. The 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami did relatively well in the capital, although it did not get the desired results in the election.

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has won both seats for the first time. He won Bogra-6 by a huge margin, but won Dhaka-17 by a small margin in the fiercely contested election. Although the official results have not been announced, BNP held a press conference to announce the victory of the party chairman in the two seats. Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman won Dhaka-15, the party's Facebook page said. As of late night, the unofficial results announced by the office of the returning officers showed that BNP won 207 seats, Jamaat-e-Islami won 77 (NCP 6) and others, including independents, won 12 seats. The results of Sherpur-2, Chittagong-4 and 6 seats are pending due to a case.

Through this, the country has passed the final stage of its transition to democracy. Voters called the elections held without any violence, chaos and incidents an Eid festival. Expressing gratitude to the nation for the peaceful, orderly and festive atmosphere in which the elections were held, the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said that this election has been the most peaceful and festive in the history of the country. This election is one of great joy and celebration. Through it, the unprecedented journey of the new Bangladesh has begun. Earlier, the Chief Advisor cast his vote and wished everyone ‘Eid Mubarak’.

Voting was held across the country from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. After the voting, the returning officers counted the votes at each center and announced the results privately. Later, the results sent by the returning officers were also announced by the Election Commission.

After a night of debate and extreme tension, the Returning Officer unofficially declared Mirza Abbas of BNP as the winner of Dhaka-8 constituency. He got 4,980 more votes than his rival, NCP's Nasiruddin Patwari. Mirza Abbas got 56,552 votes, while Patwari got 51,572 votes.

BNP's Aminul Haque lost in Dhaka-16 constituency. Jamaat's Col. (retd.) Abdul Baten was declared the winner in this constituency.

After Maulana Mamunul Haque's rival BNP's Bobby Hajjaj was declared the winner in Dhaka-13 constituency, Mamunul Haque went to the Election Commission to protest. A delegation from Jamaat-e-Islami was staying at the Election Commission till the last news was received.

According to the unofficial results, Jamaat-ul-Islami's Maulana Abdus Sattar won in Nilphamari-1, Jamaat-ul-Islami's Al Faruk Abdul Latif won in Nilphamari-2 (Sadar) and Jamaat-ul-Islami's Obaidullah Salafi won in Nilphamari-3 (Jaldhaka) constituencies, Jamaat-ul-Islami's Abdul Muntakim won in Nilphamari-4 (Saidpur and Kishoreganj), Jamaat-ul-Islami's Mahbubul Alam Salehi won in Kurigram-3 (Ulipura) constituencies, Jamaat-ul-Islami's Mostafizur Rahman won in Kurigram-4, Jamaat-ul-Islami's ATM Azharul Islam won in Rangpur-2, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) won in Rangpur-4, BNP's Kazi Rafiqul Islam won in Bogra-1, BNP's Mir Shahe Alam won in Bogra-2, BNP's Abdul Mohit Talukder won in Bogra-3, and Bogra-5.
