Stating that there is no lack of political consensus between the two countries to reduce the border killings to zero, Hasan said, discussions have been held to reduce the incidents that are still happening.

Besides, there are 54 common rivers between Bangladesh and India. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also mentioned the importance of discussions on overall management including naval protection, Teesta river management, climate change mitigation, flood disaster management and environmental protection.

He said, in the bilateral meeting, the Prime Minister of India discussed with them the expansion of cooperation in the power sector, assistance in importing hydropower from Nepal and Bhutan through India and how assistance can be obtained from the new transmission line of 3,000 MW electricity that India is building.

At this time, we also discussed about saving specific quota for Bangladesh in import of daily necessities including onion, oil, wheat, sugar and not stopping the import, said Hashan.

Support in multilateral forums:

The foreign minister also said that we have sought India's support for any post of BRICS member or partner and they have responded positively. Besides, discussions on strengthening the position in multilateral forums including BIMSTEC, Indian Ocean Rim Association, increasing economic cooperation were also positive.

He said that China's role in the discussion on the repatriation of about 1.3 million Rohingya sheltered in Bangladesh to Myanmar has also come. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she would discuss it during her visit to China.

Hashan Mahmud, in response to journalists' questions about visas, said that India issues about two million visas to Bangladeshis annually, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given new instructions to their missions to speed up medical visas and prevent unnecessary delays in other visas.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Mustafizur Rahman and Prime Minister's Press Secretary Naemul Islam Khan were with the Foreign Minister during the briefing.
