BNP's pledge to stand by BGMEA

BNP has expressed its commitment to stand by BGMEA, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association. Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed this promise on behalf of BNP when the delegation of BJMEA came to meet on Tuesday (September 10) afternoon amid the turmoil in the garment industry in the country. The meeting was held at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan of the capital. Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, member of the party's standing committee, and Barkat Ullah Bulu, vice chairman, were present. On the other hand, the delegation led by BJMEA President Khandaker Rafiqul Islam consisted of Senior Vice President Abdullah Hill Rakib, Vice President Rakibul Alam, Director Shobhan Islam, Nurul Islam and Afsar Hossain. Among the former presidents of BJMEA were SM Fazulal Haque, Kazi Munir, Mostafa Golam Quddus and BJMEA Standing Committee Chairman Kofil Uddin, Abul Kalam and others. In the meeting, the leaders of BJMEA presented the current situation of the garment industry to the BNP Secretary General. The Secretary General informed the delegation of BJMEA about the instructions given by BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman to the leaders to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the garment industry. Mirza Fakhrul said that the garment industry is the driving force of the economy. It has to be kept active somehow. It involves employment of a large group. At that time, the owners of the garment industry complained that 'groups are causing instability in the garment industry' and sought the united cooperation of political parties including BNP in this regard.
