The High Court has given its verdict on the appeal in the grenade attack case on Bangabandhu Avenue in Gulistan of the capital on August 21, 2004. Tarique Rahman and everyone else have been acquitted in this verdict. Tarique Rahman posted a post on his verified Facebook page in the wake of this verdict.

In the post, he wrote, “The beauty of truth is that it inevitably triumphs over propaganda and conspiracy. It gives us faith that ultimately justice and fairness will prevail. Let us unite to end political vendettas and begin a new chapter in history, where no one’s life or family will be destroyed due to political differences.”

Tareq Rahman further wrote, “We pledge to uphold the spirit of democracy that relies on diversity of beliefs and ideologies, empowering the people of Bangladesh to determine their own destiny through electoral participation. In that journey, we aspire to uphold the rule of law, human rights and freedom of expression, protect the rights and freedoms of every citizen, and build an inclusive, tolerant and rules-based society.”

It is worth mentioning that the court acquitted 19 accused, including BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, in the August 21 grenade attack case. The High Court gave this verdict after dismissing the death reference in the case and allowing the appeal and jail appeal of the accused. The High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain gave this verdict at around 11 am on Sunday.
